The passport of Grenada opens up opportunities for traveling around the world. It is an excellent alternative to the Schengen visa.

One can come to Schengen countries with a Grenada passport and spend 90 days out of 180 per year. Citizenship is issued for life. Passport renewal is simple and completely remote. At the same time, a Schengen visa is valid for a maximum of 5 years while the person doesn’t violate the 90/180 days rule and is re‑approved every time the term expires.

Some investors choose a Grenada passport because they do business with partners in China. You can spend up to 30 days there with the passport of a country.

To obtain a second citizenship in Grenada and take advantage of the freedom of travel it provides, one needs to invest at least $235,000. Investment options include the purchase of real estate and a non-refundable contribution to a government fund.

Grenada passport benefits

A holder of a Grenada passport can also obtain a B-1/B-2 tourist visa to the US. It allows you to travel around the country, come to business meetings and conferences, and use medical services in clinics for up to 180 days a year.

Traveling to China. Grenada is one of few countries with a China visa-free travel agreement. Grenadian citizens have visa-free access to China. They can stand there for up to 30 days a year.

How to obtain Grenada citizenship

To get a Grenada passport through naturalization, you need to live in the country for 7 years. This option does not suit everyone.

One can become a Grenada citizen by investment. In the first 9 months of 2024, 1,411 investors applied for a passport of the country. Of those applicants, 72% purchased real estate, while the remaining applicants invested in the National Transformation Fund.

To obtain a Grenada passport by investment, an applicant chooses one of two options:

  1. Make a $235,000 contribution to the National Transformation Fund. The government uses this money for reconstruction of infrastructure, development of hospitals and schools.
  2. Buy real estate — $270,000 or more. The property can be rented out during ownership and profitably sold after 5 years.

Additional payments. An investor covers the costs of Due Diligence, pays state duties and fees, services for registration, translation, and legalization of documents.

Citizenship for a family. The investor can include close relatives in the application: spouse, children, parents and grandparents, brothers and sisters.

The investment amount for a family of up to 4 people is $235,000. Starting from the fifth family member, the investor adds:

  • $25,000 per parent or grandparent over 55 or child;
  • $50,000 per parent or grandparent under 55;
  • $75,000 per sibling.

A Grenada passport is issued for 5 years and can be renewed for an additional fee. The procedure is remote.

An investor should be over 18 years old and without a criminal record. He or she confirms their legality of income, has no denials of citizenship and no sanctions.

Applicants don’t have to pass language proficiency tests or other exams. In addition, they are not required to come to Grenada.

The following relatives of the investor are eligible for Grenada citizenship:

  • a spouse — of the opposite sex and in a legally recognised marriage;
  • parents and grandparents — financially dependent on the investor or spouse;
  • children under 30 — fully financially dependent on the investor or spouse;

According to the rules of the Grenada investment program, only a licensed agent can apply on behalf of investors and their families.

All steps of citizenship by investment application can take place remotely.

Step-by-step procedure for obtaining Grenada citizenship

1. Consultation with a licensed agent of the program. The Certified Compliance Anti Money Laundering Officer carries out a preliminary Due Diligence and warns about possible risks.  Verification does not require additional documents and takes 1 day.

Immigrant Invest is the only licensed agent of the program in Grenada with a compliance department.

2. Conclusion of an agreement with the licensed agent. A contract can be signed remotely or at one of the offices.

3. Preparation of documents. Lawyers prepare a package of documents, translate and notarize them. We fill out state forms and submit a package of documents to the Grenada Department. An applicant pays Due Diligence fees and fees for a contract.

4. Due Diligence by the Government of Grenada can last 3 to 6 months.

5. After approval, an investor pays the investment and government fees.

6. The investor receives the passports and a certificate of naturalization at our office or by a courier.

Popular visa-free destinations for Grenada passport holder

The Schengen Area. Many investors obtain second citizenship in Grenada specifically for visa-free travels to the Schengen Area.

For short stays of up to 90 days every half a year, Grenada citizens don't need visas to enter the Schengen countries. The limit applies to the whole area rather than individual countries, meaning one cannot spend 90 days in the Netherlands and then go to Belgium. Travelers must fit all their desired destinations within the Schengen Area within the 90-day limit.

The UK. Grenada citizens can also travel visa-free to the UK for up to 180 days with no other limitations. Visa-free entry is allowed only for tourism. For employment, studies or marriage, a special visa is required.

Hong Kong. Grenada citizens can travel to Hong Kong without visas for up to 90 days.

In Singapore, Grenada passport holders can stay visa-free for up to 30 days.

China. Grenada maintains a visa-free regime with China. This means that Grenada citizens can enter China without a visa and spend up to 30 days in the country.

Visa-free entry to China is a rare case. This could be very useful when working with business partners from this country.

The USA. Grenada citizens cannot visit the USA without a visa. However, they can obtain a 10-year visitor visa. The B-1/B-2 visa allows its holder to travel to the USA for tourism and business purposes. They can visit their family and friends, attend business meetings or speak at conferences. However, this type of visa does not allow studying or working permanently in the country.

Aside from that, Grenada citizens can apply for a non-immigrant E–2 visa. It is issued for 2 years and allows staying in the country for any number of days during its validity period.
