The Government of St Kitts and Nevis is rolling out biometrically enabled passports for every citizen naturalised through the citizenship by investment programme. The National Biometric Enrolment and Passport Modernisation Programme currently applies to CIU-track citizens only; rules for citizens born in St Kitts and Nevis are expected to follow in 2027.

Biometrics enrolment is required by July 31st, 2027. From August 1st, 2027, any non-biometric passport is deactivated and can no longer be used for international travel. Citizenship itself remains unaffected.

Fees of biometric enrolment in St Kitts and Nevis
The biometric fee is all-inclusive: it covers enrolment, secure identity verification, and the new biometric passport — there is no separate passport fee on top. However, the fee does not include any police report, service fees, and delivery costs. A payment processing fee is itemised separately at checkout.
The biometric fee amount is:
- $2,500 — for the main applicant;
- $2,000 — per dependant aged 16 or over;
- $1,300 — per child under 16.
This fee applies to the first biometric passport issued under the programme. Subsequent renewals are charged at the standard Passport Office fee, and a lost or damaged passport after issuance follows the standard Passport Office replacement procedure — neither repeats the biometric enrolment fee.

It depends on your case. Existing adult citizens upgrading to a biometric passport receive a 10-year document. New first-time applicants, approved after the programme’s launch, receive a 5-year passport on first issue and a 10-year passport on each subsequent renewal. Passports for minors under 16 are valid for 5 years.

From August 1st, 2027, a passport that has not completed enrolment is deactivated by the Passport Office and can no longer be used for international travel. Your citizenship status is not affected but if you do not complete biometric enrolment before your passport’s validity ends, you will not be able to travel on it.
If your current passport carries a valuable long-term visa, such as a US visa, you can continue travelling on it alongside your new biometric passport.
